We found out most truffle oil is a lie.
We bought truffle oil to teach our dog, Lizzy Bear, the scent. Turns out it had never been near a truffle. So we’re making the real thing.
Two ingredients, real Oregon truffle and grapeseed oil.

A couple of years ago we had a simple, slightly ridiculous idea: what if we trained our dog to hunt truffles? Lizzy Bear is a seven year old Yorkshire terrier who lives with her nose to the ground, so honestly she was already halfway there.
So we bought a bottle of truffle oil to learn the scent. Then we started researching. The more we read, the clearer it got: the oil we had bought, like most of it, was not made from real truffle. We had been paying a premium for a lab. That was the moment.
